NCTC and BuzzClan kick off $3.99 million in DOL grant

Knowledge is power and should not be the bastion of the privileged. Keeping this thought provoking ideology in mind, North Central Texas College has collaborated with area employers and other community partners for their TechHire programme. The $3.99 million dollars grant provided by Department of Labor will allow the college to create IT and advanced manufacturing careers for the disconnected youth having barriers to employment, veterans, individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency and for the long term unemployed.

The program participants would be instilled with valuable and market relevant skills in two of the most sought-after fields, i.e.: IT and advanced manufacturing. The successful fruition of this programme is made possible through NCTC partnership with 24 North Texas employers, either specializing in IT, for instance BuzzClan, TEKsystems, Cyber Defense Labs, Inc to name a few or in advanced manufacturing like Eikon, TNT Electric, Inc, ensuring the participants of the programme have the best of internship, allowing them proper exposure to the outside work environment.

The grant has been used to enhance its existing programs in IT, manufacturing, machining and electrical domain. The training and work experience along with tuition fee assistance and career services have been instrumental in upskilling the workforce which had been relegated to the fringes. It’s no surprise that a large number of workforce have been already trained via this programme and are doing very well in the community.
